Nightlife in Bangkok
Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, is renowned for its historical temples, palaces, and markets, but to see the city truly sparkle- one must see Bangkok in the night-time. A bustling metropolis, Bangkok is renowned as a city that is illuminated after dark. Lights make the city sparkle, making night strolling one of a kind; for a bright night tour, see the public Skywalk at Bangkok Downtown Square, to start.
If you’d prefer to travel in luxury instead of stroll, board one of the infamous teak-wood rice barges as they cruise down Bangkok’s River of Kings. Culturally rich barges are replete with food and entertainment, as well as the many beautiful sights that can be seen on the banks of the city. Bangkok’s nightlife holds a wonderful occasion for any type of traveler-timid or adventurous.
For some wild and crazy fun, take a Go-Go Trail, like Patpong, Nana Plaza, or Soi Cowboy where you can catch some risqué dancing, and exotic gifts. For more of a taste of the sexy side of Bangkok, visit a Ladyboy Show, full of elaborate, beautiful costumes and fantastic musical tributes, all dedicated to the female form. The Calypso boys at the Asia hotel are some of the most famous performers. And of course, there are dozens of hip night clubs in Bangkok with incredible renowned DJs to help you dance the night away.
For a less scandalous audience looking for entertainment, see the Siam Niramit Cultural Show and Dinner. This 80 minute show, nicknamed the “Land of Smiles” is fun for all ages, even those for which it is past their bedtime!
In case you didn’t get your daily shopping fix while in perusing Chinatown, the Suan Lum Night Bazaar has a plethora of goods (though often bootlegged, so be wary when making purchases) to look through and enjoy for a cheap price.
Another Bangkok spot that has received a lot of hype, and rightly so, is the Bed Supperclub: a brightly decorated, pop-punk bar, club, and restaurant. Bed Supperclub, said to look like a space-ship, is known to have great food, but the real fun is found in the dancing and chit-chatting that goes into the wee-hours of the morning, there. What makes this place remarkable is the installment of beds where you can lounge, eat, and listen to music. As if that weren’t accommodating enough, there are also personal masseuses for hire to bring you to the ultimate relaxation level. For classical and jazz music lovers, the Saxophone Pub is the perfect way to spend a more casual, relaxing evening; locals and expats alike rave about the sultry sounds which radiate from its doors.
Muay Thai, or “Thai Boxing” is a thrilling, alternative way to spend a night in Bangkok, and is definitely not for the faint of heart. Take a taxi to the Lumpini Stadium or Ratchadamnoen Stadium, and have dinner at the night-market before-hand; you’ll need your appetite to make it through the ravenous night. A truly cultural experience, many have raved about the awesomeness of seeing a fighter and their fellow citizens encourage them as they exercise their abilities.
If you only have one night to experience Bangkok, Khao San Road is a great place to go to experience a lot of attractions, efficiently. Take a stroll, or mingle, and visit the famous Silk Bar. It has been criticized for its’ large crowds of tourists, but like Bourbon Street in New Orleans, it is a must-see and do.
Bangkok is a wonderful city to experience in the night time at any age. With rich cultural entertainment, bright lights, busy streets, relaxing bars, great food, and intense fighting, there is sure to be something to make for an unforgettable evening.
